Wednesday, January 30th
Today is the first day of teaching at the paramedic school again for
the Spring semester.
I’ve been doing a lot of prep work the past couple of weeks so poor
Caden has been a little bored.I’m really looking forward to it, but my parents are looking
forward to it even more because they get to babysit Caden for the
next five weeks.
We’re going to
have some really early days this semester because I’ve shifted all of my classes
to first thing in the morning this round.Getting him to my parents and then me to the school on time is
going to be interesting!
Caden might have to show up at Grandma’s house in his jammies in the
morning.

I had a dentist appointment today and took Caden along with me!I was going to ask my mom to babysit but I knew it was
just going to be a short appointment. So, I decided to risk it.We plopped him down in his stroller in the treatment room
with me.He was great
and seemed fascinated with everything going on.The dental hygienist said that we should start brushing
his mouth now as his baby teeth are starting to erupt.
All of the ladies
in the dental office were coming in to talk to Caden and entertain
him.There is one
particular woman who works there that might as well be a model. She is gorgeous.
Tall and beautiful.She
has helped me there before so I know her somewhat well.Anyway, she walked in to say hi and to meet Caden and I’ve
never seen him react this way before. It was like he was smitten. He was completely flirting with her, turning his head, and he kept batting his
big brown eyes at her.
We were all just cracking up because he was being so funny.I couldn’t believe it. Working the crowd
already?!

John and Caden and I were invited by our adoption agency to
speak today at their “weekend intensive” class. It is a training session for prospective parents who are
interested in adopting.
They always ask a couple who has been successful adopting to come in
and talk to the class about their experience. That’s what John and I did. We’re supposed to bring Caden along for the cuteness factor. And to show them that they can have one of these little
munchkins too some day.
It turned out to
be the biggest class they’ve ever had so the people were wall to
wall.We talked for about an
hour and just related our experiences of our two year adoption
journey.We tried to
impart some of the things we learned and some of the things we might
have done differently if we could have.
They had tons of
questions and we probably could have gone on for hours.I remember when we attended our weekend intensive.I was the same way; filled with tons of questions.
I do wish all of
those folks a speedy and painless journey and I hope they will be as
blessed some day as we are.

Where’s Caden? A simple game of peek-a-boo really got him
going today.

Wednesday, January 23rd
Today was our repeat doctor’s appointment to re-measure the
circumference of Caden’s head.
Last month when we saw the pediatrician's PA, she was worried that
Caden's head is too small and wanted us to come back in a month to
have it checked again.
Here is what we found out:
Measurement
shows:it is still
growing but it is still small. Anything to worry about? No. Anything you can do to change it? No. Our plan going
forward?Keep measuring
it. Do kids with small heads have lower IQ’s?No.Studies show
that head size has no correlation to IQ. So was all of this a
waste of time?Probably.
The verdict: Your kid has a small head (no shit Sherlock).
Once again, I’d
much rather have a kid with a cute head (like Caden’s) than one with
a gigantic head in the 95th percentile!I had a massive head when I was a toddler and my brothers
made fun of me all the time. But they had a right too.I had a humungous melon.

Today was our third swimming lesson. He really loves swimming. He doesn’t mind at all being wet or getting his face in the
water.He’s a champion
back floater and he dunks his head underwater.

LuLu is stuck to this kid like velcro. She almost never leaves
his side.

We were goofing off with Caden tonight on the couch and he was
laughing so hard I thought he was going to blow a fuse!

Friday, January 11th
Hee Hee.We were on
television again last night at the hockey game!I think there must be a cameraman that likes Caden because
this is the second time this week that he’s been on TV.

Tuesday, January 8th
Today was Caden’s first swimming lesson. We are taking them at a swimming school with an indoor pool
that is heated up to like 88 degrees. There are six other babies in the class and, of course, all
mommies and one dad (me). And of course, they look at me like I’m a Martian.
Caden had fun
today but he’s so busy watching everything and everybody else that
he doesn’t always pay attention to what
he is supposed to be
doing. All of the practice
we’ve been doing in the bathtub has paid off because he seems really
comfortable in the water compared to everyone else. He’s really relaxed, which is good.

Monday,
January 7th We were at the hockey game last night with Caden and John
got a text message from a friend of his that said we were just
on television! It was a little bit weird at first because
you suddenly realize that someone has been watching you without you
knowing it - and broadcasting it to thousands of people also
watching at home. Was I picking my nose or scratching
my...? But
it feels kind of exciting. Then you realize... crap!
We didn't record the game. We'll never get to see it. Poo.
When we got home we looked on our cable provider and
realized that they replay the games on demand. So, we were
able to watch and record it. It's funny that not only did
they show him at the intermission but they even talked about him
too! Wearing his new hat from Christmas.

Sunday, January 6th
We took Caden swimming in the big pool at our gym today. He’s going to be starting infant-parent swimming lessons this
week (with me) so we wanted to see how he does in the big pool.He did great. He
already floats on his back and goes under the water.
And for those of
you wondering, they make a special little swimsuit for infants who
aren’t potty trained yet.(It’s that sexy green speedo he’s got on; do you really think
we’d buy him that by choice?)It keep everything contained in case there is an accident in
the water.

Thursday, January 3rd
Caden ended up getting a couple of duplicate Christmas gifts, so we
returned them and got him an Excersaucer. It’s kind of this round thing that he sits in to do different
activities.It’s also
good for Papa because he stays in one place!
I decided to put
it together today.It
only took THREE HOURS!
It must have had 942 parts.
After I had it
all together, I put Caden in it for a test ride.At first he was beaming and laughing. And then all of the sudden it seemed like the whole thing
just overwhelmed him and he lost it.It was pretty cute.Maybe we’ll have to use it small time periods for awhile
until he gets used to it.
